Why this spelling
This romanisation is not the spelling copied letter by letter. It is built from the National Institute of Korean Language’s Revised Romanization, which writes what the word sounds like once the sounds next to each other have changed it.
When you would say it
Watch the pronunciation: the written 합 comes out as "ham" before the next consonant. Say gam-sa-ham-ni-da, not gam-sa-hap-ni-da.
Leaving, and thanking
Korean has two goodbyes, and the difference is who’s leaving. It looks fussy on the page; it’s automatic within a day.
