Why this spelling
This romanisation is not the spelling copied letter by letter. It is built from the National Institute of Korean Language’s Revised Romanization, which writes what the word sounds like once the sounds next to each other have changed it.
When you would say it
For a neighbor, a hotel desk, or the shop next door that did stay open. Ask for the answer in writing, or point at the calendar on your phone.
What closes, and what doesn’t
Travel pages like to say the country shuts down for the holidays. It doesn’t, and believing it costs you plans you never had to cancel. What closes is the small and the personal.
