Why this spelling

This romanisation is not the spelling copied letter by letter. It is built from the National Institute of Korean Language’s Revised Romanization, which writes what the word sounds like once the sounds next to each other have changed it.

When you would say it

Works at a door, over the phone, or held up on a screen. The answer you want back is 네 (ne), yes.

Seollal and Chuseok: three days, every time

**Both follow the lunar calendar, so where they land on your calendar changes every year.** What doesn’t change is the length. The day before, the day itself, and the day after are all public holidays. Three days, every time. Seollal falls in winter and Chuseok in the fall. Beyond that, the moon decides.
