이 국물에 멸치나 조개가 들어 있어요?

i gungmure myeolchina jogaega deureo isseoyo?

Is there anchovy or shellfish in this broth?

Why this spelling

This romanisation is not the spelling copied letter by letter. It is built from the National Institute of Korean Language’s Revised Romanization, which writes what the word sounds like once the sounds next to each other have changed it.

When you would say it

The question that reaches the part you can’t see. Ask it even when the dish is vegetables.

The broth is where it hides

A lot of Korean flavor is built before anything visible reaches the bowl. Stock made from dried anchovy, from clams, or from beef bone simmered for hours carries the taste, and none of it can be picked out once the dish is served. **A bowl of noodles in clear broth and a plate of seasoned greens can both be standing on fish.**
